God gives us power, love, and a sound mind.
I always found the verse in Hebrews interesting, it says to STRIVE to enter rest. How do we strive to rest? What does rest look like? Since God gives us power, love, and a sound mind, how does that help us enter into rest?
Power Love Sound Mind
We have the power of the Holy Spirit in us, the love of God, and a sound mind. Each one of these helps us to enter into that rest because it is given to us. God would not give us something to interfere with what He wants us to have.
1 Corinthians 13:7 we are told that love bears, believes, hopes, and endures all things. We can only bear these with Gods help. I have to love with the love of God if I am going to bear all these things, I have to forgive like God forgave and I have to see like He sees.
In Galatians 5:22-23 are the fruits of the spirit which are love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and self-control. They are called fruits. Fruit does not strive to grow, it just grows out of the abundance of what the plant is. When we posses these attributes, we are at rest.
In Philippians 4:8 we are told to think on true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellence, and praiseworthy, things. That is not always easy to think about, we see and hear about horrible things happening around our world. When we recognize God in our lives we, and do as He has commanded we can be at rest.
Abiding
ABIDING – what does abiding with God look like? When you abide you stay close and learn all you can about who God is, how He works, what He wants to accomplish in your life. A branch abides with the trunk. Everything that the trunk of the tree has so does that branch. That is what abiding with God looks like, He is your source.
The history of It Is Well, shows how out of deep sorrow God is still there. From the song can you have an understanding of what true power, love, and self-control is. As you learn when the storms come you will be able to stand firm in who God is and who you are in Him.
Meditate on 2 Timothy 1:7 – know this is a promise that God keeps.
